As many people know, YouTube has updated their terms of service again. Starting Dec. 10, 2019, they might remove channels that are not “commercially viable,” meaning they don’t earn enough revenue to offset YouTube’s expense in hosting them.
While I do monetize my channel with ads, about 20% or so of my videos have “limited or no ads” due to content, and I don’t mind publicly admitting that I average less than $70 per month revenue from YouTube. I have no problem with that since I have a job outside activism and never meant to earn anything significant from my exJW work in general.
However, you see the double-edged sword; since I earn so little revenue, there’s a chance my channel might go away. Because of that risk, I’m taking a small break from videos until these terms go into effect (I don’t want to invest time in new videos if they’re just gonna disappear).
In the meantime I’m busy tying up some loose ends with other activism projects and getting my books on another platform (I’m boycotting amazon) and I expect to regroup and start fresh after the first of the year, whatever happens. Please keep an eye on the website as I’ll post a note or something once this all settles. Thanks for your support in all of this!
